The teleconference described employment practices that have been successful in helping homeless people obtain and retain jobs. The teleconference also examined factors that have contributed to success and how successful programs document and quantify these factors. The teleconference helps providers in the homeless assistance and workforce systems better understand how to collaborate on behalf of homeless jobseekers, taking into account the systems respective philosophies, funding streams, and performance measurement standards.
The teleconference provided background information on why it is important to document results of employment for homeless people; described the homeless assistance system and the mainstream system of workforce development, both of which fund and deliver employment services for homeless people; highlighted basic principles and practices behind successful employment programs; examined how homeless and mainstream systems define and document success; and explored successful collaborations between the two systems.
