About the HRE
This page describes the types of information and resources that are available on the HUD Homelessness Resource Exchange (HRE) and provides guidance on navigating to the content most relevant to your needs.
What is HUD's HRE?
The Homelessness Resource Exchange is your online one-stop shop for information and resources on assisting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Program guidance and regulations, technical assistance (TA) and training resources, research and publications, and more are available for use by Federal agencies, state and local government agencies, Continuum of Care organizations, homeless service providers, TA providers, persons experiencing homelessness, and other stakeholders.
What are HUD Quick Links?
The HRE provides direct links to important program guidance and resources on the main HUD website, including information on HUD's housing and homeless programs, links to other federal agencies' homeless assistance programs, a direct link to HUD's HMIS.Info website; CoC grant application materials, Frequently Asked Questions, e*SNAPs, a calendar of homelessness training events, and a feature to locate technical assistance organizations near you.
Also featured on the HRE homepage are information on signing up for the SNAPs and HMIS listservs and an Advanced Search function.
What sort of resources are available on the HRE?
The resources on the right-hand side of the HRE homepage allows users to browse the resources available by topic area, audience, and type.
- Resources by Topic: Find resources categorized by homeless assistance topic areas, such as Continuum of Care (CoC) Planning and Administration, Homeless Prevention, and Accessing Mainstream Services and Supports.
- Resources by Audience: Find resources specific to your role (e.g., CoC Administrator or Case Manager).
- Resources by Type: Browse resources by type - Training and Technical Assistance materials or Research and Reports.
What are Resources by Topic?
The Resources by Topic portion of the HRE main page allows users to browse resources related to specific topics.
Click on a topic that interests you to view a listing of relevant subtopics. Under each subtopic, a list of training and technical assistance materials, research and reports, and HUD guidance and regulations will appear. For example, the Resource by Topic page for Homelessness Prevention provides the three types of resources under the subtopics of Prevention Strategies, Discharge Planning, and Emergency Assistance Programs.
What are Resources by Audience?
The Resources by Audience portion of the HRE main page contains links to resources that target specific audiences.
Click on an audience that interests you to view a listing of relevant training and technical assistance materials, research and reports, and HUD guidance and regulations. For example, the page for Case Managers includes resources related to accessing mainstream services and supports, homelessness prevention, and serving chronically homeless persons.
What are Resources by Type?
The Resources by Type portion of the HRE main page allows users to browse resources based on resource type. Resources are categorized as Training and Technical Assistance materials or Research and Reports.
How do I search for resources on the HRE?
The HRE allows you to perform searches for resources using two search methods: the Quick Search and the Advanced Search.
The Quick Search allows you to type your search terms into the field located directly below the logo for the HRE.
The Advanced Search gives you the option of refining your search by defining one or more parameters: keyword, topic, audience, type, date published, or experience level.
